Cellular Mechanotransduction: Filamin A Strains to Regulate Motility

چکیده
A new study suggests that mechanical strain through the actin-binding protein filamin A leads to increased linkage between the extracellular matrix and cytoskeleton and decreased actin dynamics.

Filamin A controls matrix metalloproteinase activity and regulates cell invasion in human fibrosarcoma cells.
Filamins are an important family of actin-binding proteins that, in addition to bundling actin filaments, link cell surface adhesion proteins, signaling receptors and channels to the actin cytoskeleton, and serve as scaffolds for an array of intracellular signaling proteins. Filamins are known to regulate the actin cytoskeleton, act as mechanosensors that modulate tissue responses to matrix den...
متن کاملFilamin: a structural and functional biomolecule with important roles in cell biology, signaling and mechanics.
Focal adhesions are the immediate sites of the cell's adhesive interaction with the extracellular matrix and as such play a key role in mechanosensing and mechanotransduction at the edge of the cell interface with its surrounding microenvironment. A multitude of proteins orchestrate this mechanochemical communication process between the cell and its outside world. Filamin is a member of focal a...
متن کاملCellular Mechanotransduction Relies on Tension-Induced and Chaperone-Assisted Autophagy
Mechanical tension is an ever-present physiological stimulus essential for the development and homeostasis of locomotory, cardiovascular, respiratory, and urogenital systems. Tension sensing contributes to stem cell differentiation, immune cell recruitment, and tumorigenesis. Yet, how mechanical signals are transduced inside cells remains poorly understood. Here, we identify chaperone-assisted ...
متن کاملFilamin A and FILIP (Filamin A-Interacting Protein) regulate cell polarity and motility in neocortical subventricular and intermediate zones during radial migration.
In the developing neocortex, most excitatory neurons are supplied and arranged through radial migration. Because neurons show global morphological changes and complicated behavior during that migration, precise regulation of cell shape and polarity is essential for proper migration and correct neocortical formation; however, how cell shape and polarity are regulated in migrating neuron remains ...
